Equally sensual and poetic, a singer-songwriter unrivaled.
A flawless singer and brilliant songwriter, Marvin Gaye was a prime mover of Black music from the early 1960s into the 1980s. His masterpiece, What's Going On became a template for how to marry a strong message with a pop sensibility in order to reach as large an audience as possible.
He spent much of his early career with Motown as a sessions drummer earning $5 a week. He found success as co-writer of the Marvelettes "Beechwood 4-5789."
